Greater Boston’s million-dollar homes now selling below asking

Remember the pandemic housing boom, when plummeting mortgage interest rates — which reached an all-time record low of 2.65 percent for a 30-year fixed in January 2021 — drove buyer demand, causing bidding wars that drove some luxury homes to sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars over the asking price?

How has the luxury market in Greater Boston changed since the pandemic? Are high-end homes still selling for more than the asking price?

To answer those questions, Zillow ran some numbers for Boston Globe Media on the Greater Boston luxury housing market, and there’s good news for buyers: The market has cooled, with more homes selling below the asking price. Exactly how much of a discount, however, depends on the price point.
